Current Show - The Land and Sea

PhotoArts Group - Current ShowLandscape photography is intended to show different spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Photographs typically capture the presence of nature and are often free of man-made obstructions. Landscape photographers often attempt to document the space as well as convey an appreciation of the scenery. “Many landscape photographs show little or no human activity and are created in the pursuit of a pure, unsullied depiction of nature[1] devoid of human influence, instead featuring subjects such as strongly defined landforms, weather, and ambient light. As with most forms of art, the definition of a landscape photograph is broad, and now includes urban settings, industrial areas, and nature photography. Waterfalls, coastlines, seascapes and mountains are especially popular in classic landscape photography. Many photographs are inspired by traditional landscape painting.” ***All of the above being said, as your coordinator, I would prefer our PAG artists submit non-cityscape images which reflect the relatively unspoiled beauty of nature, or the sea which covers much of the earth.

November Show - Driven to Abstraction

Most of the arts have been doing a lot of "abstract" work for a long time. It has taken a bit longer for Photography, as one of the arts, to be driven to abstraction. But we're now there, so lets enjoy it, and stop worrying about the costs of therapy. PAG has a large number of photographers and digital artists who do stunning abstract work. Lets exhibit our best for this PAG show. Among the types of work that we (Steve Schlesinger is co-coordinator) would REALLY like to see are two: (1) "Straight" photographs of ordinary, every day objects or scenes which focus on details, resulting in abstract images. The most interesting, to me, are ones where you can't tell what you're viewing. And when you find out, its startling. (2) Photographs that are subject to modifications and adjustments ("manipulation" is of course strictly prohibited... smiley face)) using your favorite photo editing tools, again to the point where the colors, shapes, and lines dominate, and we have fun guessing about the original capture. The difference between #1 and #2, of course, is that #1 has little or no post capture editing; while #2 has a lot. Which is not to say that we will only accept unrecognizable images. Interesting textures on walls, for example, can be abstract AND recognizable (as a wall). We do request that all entries be based on a photographic capture.
